I went to a sauna but the temperature wasn’t to my liking… I wish I could light the firewood myself… Have you ever thought like that?
We would like to recommend Kumanoko Sauna at the guesthouse SEN.RETREAT TAKAHARA, located along the Kumano Kodo, a World Heritage Site that Wakayama Prefecture is proud of. This is a one-room guesthouse with the warmth of wood, renovated from an empty house in Takahara, a village with a population of 70 people. In this sauna, you can even make your own fire from chopping wood and choose your favourite aroma for a self-loo-loo experience. Aromas made from local fruits are available.
As it only accommodates one group per day, families and friends can enjoy the sauna as many times as they like. The water bath is made of 100-year-old Kishu cedar, and was created by a local 88-year-old vat maker.
